Shawna Cantorial Soloist Shawna Rosen has been involved in the Jewish music world since childhood, growing up and singing in the choir at Congregation Solel in Highland Park.  After receiving her masters degree in music education, Shawna became Solel’s choir director and b’nai mitzvah tutor, where she remained until 2004.  She went on to conduct the choirs and tutor at Beth Emet in Evanston, Temple Beth El in Northbrook, and BJBE in Deerfield. Along the way, Shawna would occasionally substitute for the Cantors at those synagogues, and she fell in love with helping people connect to their Judaism through music.  At Temple Judea Mizpah, Shawna’s responsibilities include co-leading worship with Rabbi Memis-Foler, preparing students to become b’nai mitzvah, and leading the adult choir.  Shawna also is an elementary music teacher in Northfield, where she has been for 12 years.  Shawna is a proud member of the Guild of Temple Musicians, the Women Cantors’ Network and the National Association for Music Education. She and her husband Ira live in Buffalo Grove, with their five children.  Shawna can be reached at 847-676-1566 ext.107 or by email at: shawnarosen@templejm.org.
